We're excited to continue hosting our monthly community screenings of the critically-acclaimed new film Consuming Kids, an eye-opening account of the pervasive and pernicious effects of children's advertising on the health and well-being of kids.

The film is produced by the Media Education Foundation and features the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood staff and Steering Committee, and is completely FREE and open to the public.

Amy is actively seeking youth interested in service credits and internships to explore the positive aspects of media as well as trend-tracking the negative behavioral cues, so come one come all! (parent volunteers too!)

Amy will also share info gleaned from the last CCFC summit where she led a workshop with colleagues including CCFC director Dr. Susan Linn, author of Consuming Kids: The Hostile Takeover of Childhood.

Feel free to bring squirm-free sibs and kids that would benefit from this movie message too, as age appropriate. Hope to see you there!

In Nov & Dec. we'll be hosting a double-feature format, screening "Captive Audience: Advertising Invades the Classrooms" and a special hands-on media literacy event FOR KIDS during winter break Dec. 29. If you'd like to help us organize 2010, we're looking for interns too! We have lots of great film finds and would love to get the headcount up high enough to move the venue from house party to auditorium! :-)
